We leverage excellent Sigma material and decades of experience built by Permatech brand, acquired by Vesuvius in 2019, as well as high purity sintered fused silica Zyarock material from Feignies plant in France, and cooperation with reputable partners.
SLAB CASTING CONSUMABLES
To make high quality aluminium slabs with as low reject rates as possible, high quality casting table consumables are of paramount importance, whereas both material selection, and tolerances matter.
Pins and spouts
For vast majority of slab alloys, Vesuvius offers tailor-made controls rods (pins), spouts and spout seats (collars), made of Permatech’s Sigma - balanced mix of silica and alumina - with excellent strength, non-wetting and thermal shock resistance properties and manufactured with tolerances up to 0.05 inches.
Sigma-based slab casting consumables are available globally from our ex-Permatech site in Graham (NC, US).
The parts can be supplied with Boron Nitride coating upon request.
High purity applications
For special applications, like aerospace and some others, with higher requirements to purity of the molten metal, Vesuvius offers high purity sintered fused silica slab casting table consumables made of Zyarock material (SiO2 > 99.5%) from our location in Feignies, France.
Additionally, certain small precast shapes can be made of several other Permtech materials: fused silica-based Sigma 2 and Sigma 3, high alumina Beta LP (low porosity) and Beta 2 mixes, and silicon carbide Beta SC65 recipe.
Combo bags
Combo bags are used in slab casting, below spout, to ensure proper molten metal distribution across the mold and serving as a last filtration step.
Vesuvius works together with a partner, Rodabell, to offer wide variety of customized combo bags in North and South Americas, as well as in some European countries.
The product line includes both soft combo bags, as well as thermo-formed ones, made of high quality fabrics, ensuring no off-gassing at the start and during the entire casting sequence.
